The Game expo 2026
A couple of months ago, we had the great pleasure of showcasing the latest playable alpha prototype of Bones: Wandering Soul at The Game Expo Melbourne, where audiences were introduced to a fresh design layout, updated mechanics, and new ways to explore the world of Norland City.
One thing we hear often is that the game “isn’t quite there yet” from experienced devs or community members around the traps and honestly, we completely agree. As a young studio entering the games industry from other creative backgrounds, we have always believed in testing early and testing often. For us, showcasing unfinished work has never been about pretending the game is complete, but about understanding what players connect with, what they struggle with, and what simply doesn’t work.
For nearly two years, we’ve spent countless hours fixing systems, rebuilding mechanics, experimenting with layouts, refining movement, and learning through every public playtest. Slowly but surely, things are beginning to click into place, and we are genuinely starting to see the shape of the experience we have been chasing. This year, our focus turns toward building out more of the game as we continue development on the vertical slice demo, exploring new environments, narrative moments, mechanics, and the overall emotional tone of the world.
The Game Expo itself was a lot of fun. A little more relaxed this time around, but filled with meaningful conversations, familiar faces, new players discovering the game for the first time, and great discussions with other developers across the weekend.
We are incredibly grateful to the fellow friends, fans, and returning supporters who swung by to say hello again throughout the event. To The Indie Brew for taking the time to interview our Creative Director and continually helping spotlight indie developers and the wider Australian games community. And to everyone who stopped by to play and review the game, thank you for giving your time, feedback, encouragement, and honesty.
As a Creative Director raising a 3-year-old, leading a very small team, and developing a game on a shoestring budget, the ongoing support we continue to receive honestly means more than we could ever fully express. Every conversation, every wishlist, every kind word, and every person sharing the game with someone else genuinely helps keep this project moving forward.
We also have a couple of exciting announcements coming up and are very much looking forward to sharing those with you soon.
